Scope of Position

In coordination with the Project Manager and other project team members, the Project Engineer II provides planning and technical support related to the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) process of commercial and industrial solar PV projects.  This position works at EPC job sites and the company offices.  The Project Engineer II supports the following functions: health and safety protocol, quality control, engineering and design review, estimating and budget monitoring, purchasing and contract administration, construction management, and general project administration.  The Project Engineer II also provides project site coverage as needed. 

 

Location: This position is based in our Columbia, MD or West Lebanon, NH office with hybrid flexibility. 

 

Working Conditions:  Primarily working in an office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment.  Travel is required up to 25% of the time, which may be spent outside on construction sites or visiting vendor and/or subcontractor offices in addition to attending various conferences and meetings.  

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.  Weather conditions and terrain will vary depending on geographical location of project site.   Frequent travel to project sites required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project engineering support related to the management of subcontractors, consultants, and vendors, including design progression, vendor and subcontractor material procurement tracking, coordinating internal and external review of approval drawing packages, and daily monitoring of construction execution. 
  • Support management of on-site construction of solar PV projects to conform to the design and contract documents and the national and local building codes including the National Electric Code. Provide technical assistance to the site management team to track and close Requests for Information (RFI)/technical clarifications.
  • Support, plan, schedule, and execute the construction of solar PV projects to meet project schedules.   In coordination with the Project Manager and Superintendent, develop and track the project schedule and confirm the availability of material and subcontractor resources to maintain the schedule.
  • Provide management support for the design of the projects including management of outside consultant disciplines such as surveying, civil, environmental, landscaping, geotechnical, structural, and electrical.
  • With the support of the Project Manager, lead the preparation of equipment and subcontractor Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, prepare bids and tabulations and complete proposal evaluations, and prepare Purchase Orders and subcontractor contracts. Coordinate and track Change Orders.
  • Participate in the preparation of the monthly project financial summary as well as budget review meetings with project management.
  • Support Project Manager directives and assignments related to quality control tracking, commissioning planning and execution, and project close-out and turnover to the client. Coordinate with the commissioning team, third-party vendor commissioning leads, and internal or external Operations & Maintenance team at project commissioning and close-out. 
  • Implement safe work practices including OSHA standards, company safety programs, and policies relative to the installation of these systems.  Enforce of safety standards established by the client and the company to manage risk and achieve safety and health goals of no incidents and no lost time due to injury and no property damage.
  • Support Project Manager in document control, design review, product literature review and approval, interconnection agreement implementation, model codes review and regulations. 
  • Prepare meeting notes, meeting agendas, weekly client reports, and internal/external action item status reports at the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred: BS Engineering (electrical, mechanical, civil), Construction Management, or Project Management.  Engineering in Training (FE/EIT) preferred.
  • Four to six years of related experience in project engineering, project management, construction management, or general contracting
