Scope of Position

EDF Renewables North America is a market-leading independent power producer and service provider with over 35 years of experience. The VP - Development, South is based in Houston, TX and is directly responsible for identifying, evaluating, and coordinating key functions related to the development of projects and new business initiatives for the regionThis position will facilitate and provide oversight to the Regions development projects and initiatives as directed by the Senior Vice President, U.S. DevelopmentThe VP - Development, will be responsible for identifying and implementing new business models, market penetration strategies and commercializing those business opportunities for the Region. The VP- Development will build, manage, and foster a cohesive high-performing development team that will identify, qualify and manage to completion high-quality renewable energy developments across all commercially scalable technologies within their Region. 

Responsibilities

  • Create a detailed, multi-year, utility-scale project development plan for centralized approvals and regional execution, in close collaboration with the Sr. Vice President, U.S. Development and other members of Executive Leadership Team 
  • Oversee all day-to-day regional development team activities related to progressing the pipeline and/or initiatives in line with the approved regional development strategy; expected regional pipeline of 5-10GW Work with the regional development team and other EDF RE Departments to negotiate and finalize key project studies and agreements, environmental studies, permitting applications and related documentation, and consultant agreementsApprove Purchase Requests, invoices, expense reports up to spending limit and coordinate approvals with Senior Management if exceeding the spending limit 
  • Collaborate with other EDF RE Departments to negotiate and finalize key agreements in support of progressing development projects, including, but not limited to, Offtake, Partnership structures & Acquisition, coordinating approvals with Executive Leadership Team as required by policy 
  • Develop integrated financial budgets including financial analysis and written comments for proposed projects and investment opportunities while managing all regional budget to ensure commercialization opportunities for the company; expected budget $15-30M 
  • Approve Purchase Requests, invoices, expense reports up to spending limit and coordinate approvals with Senior Management if exceeding the spending limit 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental internal controls. The implementation and supervision of Internal Control is under the responsibility of every manager within his/her scope of authority and other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:  

Approximately 60% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipmentSpends approximately 50% of time away from the office in business development activitiesTravel includes visits to existing and potential project sites, other EDF Renewable Energy offices, industry conferences and other locations appropriate for the development function. Will spend time in meetings related to strategic planning, financial reviews, management reviews, and special projects; meetings with potential organizational partners and clients, and others related to/interested in the renewable-energy industry. 

Qualifications

Education/Experience –  

  • Requires 15+ years of utility scale power development or comparable experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering or Mathematics required; MBA or other advanced degree desirable. 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –  

  • Requires intimate knowledge of the energy, and if possible renewable energy market, and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy. 
  • Impressive track record closing renewable energy deals.  
  • Existing professional relationships with local utility representatives, developers, government representatives and others.  
  • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication and organizational skills 
  • Ability to quickly work into new tasks and accommodate with new circumstances in a dynamic environment. 

Physical Requirements: 

Minimal physical requirements - working in an office environment and travel to project sites 

 

This role’s annual base salary range is between $215,000 - $358,000.

 

Position is based in Houston, TX.  Work mode is Hybrid.
