Scope of Position

The qualified Renewable Energy Solar Technician 2 performs unsupervised field maintenances, troubleshooting and general resets on specific solar generators and its associated components. The advanced level solar technician is expected to understand and follow procedures as provided through service manuals, Control Instructions, Work Instructions, and other pertinent documents or instructions as provided by company supervisory personnel. The advanced solar technician is expected to know and follow established safety guidelines and will seek guidance in matters for which they may be uncertain or unfamiliar as well as being able to lead a maintenance crew and provide basic Solar Technician Training.

 

Pay Range: $22.00 - $36.00 per hour plus comprehensive medical, dental, vision, retirement/savings benefits and paid time off.

Responsibilities

  • Complete unsupervised preventative/unscheduled maintenances on utility-scale photovoltaic power plants and storage systems in a timely manner.
  • Inspection of solar modules, the use of testing equipment such as IR camera, IV curve tracer, multimeter, amp clamps, inclinometers, and electrical megohmmeter.
  • Accurately complete, on a daily basis, maintenance logs, work orders, time cards, service reports, and any other required paperwork or computer work for the specific project / assignment.
  • Safely perform OEM testing, troubleshooting, repairs and upgrades / revisions to a broad range of equipment in the renewable industry.
  • Monitoring systems, as well as other components, of large PV power plants and energy storage systems as well as performing resets as needed on faulted equipment.
  • Conduct site safety assessments and identify all safety hazards on job site, follow safety regulations and work procedures, lead daily safety meetings, and accurately complete required safety documentation, as well as seeking guidance from a competent source for all work for which they are unfamiliar with or do not feel safe performing.
  • Recommission PV systems, including but not limited to; insulation testing, IV curve testing, thermal imagery, torque testing, and performance evaluations.
  • Review project plans, specifications and installation instructions to ensure that the project is built according to the approved design and specification.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Position will initially be required to work in Portage, Pennsylvania with the potential to be required to work in surrounding states to include New York and Maryland.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervision of Others: During certain situations, may have to oversee contractors and sub-contractors to support site(s). The Renewable Energy Solar Technician 2 will also oversee and train junior Solar Technicians on preventative maintenances

Qualifications

  • Two (2) + years of electrical experience with successful completion of the advanced solar technician training course
  • Able to demonstrate some basic computer knowledge.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Ability to work well with sub-contractors in resolution of issues identified in the field during that phase of a project.

Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; or up to two years of related experience or training; or combination of education and experience.
  • Mastery of an Advanced Solar Technician Level training program.
  • Knowledge of electrical code and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledgeable in all Microsoft Suite applications; Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and instruct less experienced technicians for which they may be partnered, on how to complete maintenances for the solar generator(s) they jointly maintain.
  • Must be competent at filling out work orders, Control Instructions for maintenances, Inspection Forms, Parts Sheets, and other job-related forms.
  • Skilled in the use of electrical test instruments for the purpose of checking for the presence of voltage and resistance measurements on de-energized circuits and the knowledge of in-depth testing and troubleshooting of medium and high voltage equipment.
  • Competence in solar inverters and knowledge of DC – AC generation theory.
  • Have an understanding of fasteners types and techniques.
  • Must be able to read and interpret basic schematics and technical data.
  • Knowledge in electrical safety, LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out),  and arc flash standards.

  • Able to work in an electrical-mechanical environment. This may have been achieved through formal training, previous work experience or the ability to demonstrate that an individual is electromechanically inclined.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time and walk multiple miles.
  • Able to operate company vehicles (field trucks) both on site as well as on public roads and highways.
  • Must have a current driver’s license with a good DMV printout.
  • Demonstrate good work habits, including but not limited to attendance, and maintaining a neat and orderly work environment.


Work Environment:

10% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 90% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.This position requires working on platforms or skids, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, and the repetitive use of legs, arms, hands and fingers. The employee will work eight (8) hours a day, forty (40) hours a week, and overtime and night shifts as required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:

  • Extreme weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, wind, etc.
  • Moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Confined spaces
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Pay Range: $22.00 - $36.00 per hour
