Salary Range: The full pay range for this role is$93,400 - $155,700 annually. We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

 

Scope of Job: This position is responsible for leading the creation and implementation of advanced community engagement strategies for the West region’s Landowner and Community Relations and Engagement Program as well as developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships throughout a project’s lifecycle. The Senior Community Engagement Manager will also provide leadership and guidance and industry expertise to supporting team members.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing community makeup and sentiment, preparing, and implementing community engagement strategy plans, PR, Local Engagement, and/or Social Media Strategy for projects and select initiatives as needed in your region, which can include, but not limited to:
    • Design and execute programs for all development and operational projects that build the project’s public profile in the local community, create and nurture long-term relationships in project communities, and secure a social license to operate projects through the development, construction, and operational phases of project life.
    • Direct on-the-ground Community Outreach in close coordination with the Development, Operations and Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs teams. Alert the teams to local issues and potential resolution options and build integrated support from state and local stakeholders for our projects. Work with Development to ensure necessary budgets and capacity are secured to mitigate opposition risk to development projects.
    • Interact with local governmental officials and residents as well as EDF power solutions teams to reduce political/regulatory risk for wind, solar and energy storage technologies in local areas. Communicate Company positions persuasively to key community decision makers.
    • Coordinate coalition building and strengthen relationships with non-profit organizations, associations, and other national or regional partners who support renewable energy siting.
    • Document and maintain the Project’s strategy plan in Smartsheets for use by Community Engagement, Development, Implementation, Asset Optimization, and Government Relations to effectively communicate, and build long-term relationships, with local stakeholders, identify renewable energy supporters, and ensure project continuity and support across all phases of a project’s lifecycle.
    • Ensure consistent internal communication on community engagement activities and risks or issues impacting the Company.
    • Manage the implementation of community benefit initiatives throughout the lifecycle of a project, from small donations, sponsorships, and memberships during early-stage development and operations to long-term Community Benefit Agreements
  • Identify, evaluate, and direct external consultants in promoting the Company’s projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure compliance with all policies and performance standards.
  • General collaboration with the team members of the region through attendance at weekly and monthly team meetings to understand project status and priorities, and provide updates on key issues and work assignments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions: 45% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. 55% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in additional to attending various conferences and meetings.

 

Fiscal Responsibilities: Overall management of the Community Engagement Budget, Community Donations Budget, Promotions & Printables Budget, and any Strategy and PR Consultant Budgets

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a community Engagement manager or similar role, in the renewable energy sector preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Building and maintaining strong relationships with diverse communities.
    • Event Planning & Execution: From conception to on-site management.
    • Graphic Design & Layout: Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) a plus.
    • Communications & Marketing: Crafting compelling messages across various channels.
    • Media Relations: Securing positive media coverage and managing public perception.
  • Experience in a renewable-energy or related energy organization/association is a plus.
  • Experience with engaging different types of communities (urban, suburban, rural, Indigenous) and geographies.
  • Experience in assisting with approvals and associated public engagement requirements for federal, state, local and other regulatory agencies.
  • Experience with interacting with elected officials and their staff

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Leadership and management experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Takes initiative, is self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Teams skills required, especially with PowerPoint, SAP & Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Able to demonstrate experience working in a fast-paced environment that requires multi- tasking.
  • Able to demonstrate strong work habits, including but not limited to good attendance.
  • Able to demonstrate experience dealing successfully with peers, subordinates, management, and unaffiliated third parties.
  • Able to work independently within a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to describe the goals and benefits of renewable energy.
  • Able to learn about the construction and operational characteristics of renewable energy and best practices for addressing stakeholder concerns and effectively convey this information in a variety of formats.

Physical Requirements: Requires ability to handle light duty administrative tasks such as stuffing envelopes, preparing (no more than 20 pounds) boxes for shipping/receiving, logistical meeting set up and support.
