Salary range:  The full pay range for this role is $118,400 - $197,300 annually. The target range for this position is $140,000 to $175,000.  We generally base our salary decisions on factors such as internal equity, candidate work and/leadership experience, educational credentials, and in some cases, candidate work location.

 

Summary: The Senior Cloud Systems Engineer plays a key role in help us transform our on-premises infrastructure into scalable cloud architectures which meet security, audit, and other compliance requirements. This position will support a variety of organization-wide IaaS and PaaS solutions running in AWS, GCP and Azure cloud services. This role will develop modern cloud solutions to support all of our energy generation projects. This person will serve as a technical expert on Cloud Solution best practices and advise IT Leaders, Project Teams, Business Stakeholder, and Third-Party Partners. This role is a leader throughout the design, development, testing, and implementation of appropriate Public Cloud and SaaS solutions during the lifecycle of the IT or Business initiative.

Responsibilities

Secure and scalable cloud deployments are essential for every organization and is a constantly evolving task. The Senior Cloud Systems Engineer will be responsible for creating a roadmap to update, deploy and evolve current and future Cloud Infrastructure with a heavy focus on automation. Our cloud posture will be greatly improved when the organization can:

 

  • Lead the technical planning and implementation strategies of Cloud Deployments with risk mitigation, internal\external security and compliance in mind.
  • Represent business process re-engineering as part of the overall program to simplify Cloud Infrastructure processes, enhance customer value and eliminate waste.
  • Translate functional requirements into technical designs for Cloud Deployments with a focus on automation and security including roles\tools and related provisioning processes.
  • Maintain awareness of new security and authentication trends and recommend tools and techniques for the organization.
  • Develop, enhance and communicate the Cloud Governance strategy effectively to key stakeholders and team members.

The successful individual in this role will be able to identify the most optimal, cost-effective cloud-based solutions for our internal clients and maintain Cloud Infrastructures in accordance with best practices and company security policies including:

  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert by defining and implementing architecture\design, as well as supporting the engineering, production integrations\releases\upgrades and maintenance of Cloud Infrastructure Services and solutions following industry security and framework best practices throughout the system life cycle.
  • Drive an automation-first approach when implementing our services and frameworks using infrastructure-as-code technologies like Terraform and Cloud Formation
  • Ensures that current Cloud Architecture, design, and solutions protect information resources against unauthorized access and use, inappropriate degrees of access, disclosure, damage and\or loss.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality cloud solutions, emphasizing regulatory compliance and operability while optimizing for development velocity and extensibility all with a strong focus on cost optimization
  • Works with the broader CyberSecurity, IT, risk and compliance groups to interpret policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures a working balance in which the Cloud security and process controls benefit and support the business with an effective operating model for the company using a risk management mindset.
  • Support and/or facilitate the adoption, training, communication, and education of Cloud capabilities, functions, and standards.
  • Coordinates with internal and external resources and stakeholders, to include security personal, IT personnel, vendors, managed service partners, and consultants.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or related degree, preferred
  • 7+ years of experience managing infrastructure hosted both on-prem and in the big three cloud providers.
  • Technical experience in systems architecture and cloud deployment strategy\solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with Agile methodologies

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Solid understanding of integrating cloud workloads with SaaS and on-premises/legacy applications
  • Proven experience with centralizing SSO and MFA for all applications with Azure Active Directory
  • 5+ years experience managing infrastructure solutions in at least two of the three main cloud service providers (AWS, GCP and Azure)
  • Excellent communication skills verbal & written in English. To be able to communicate with IT teams and departments, end users and customers.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems and accomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Collaboration tools including Jira, Atlassian and Azure DevOps.
  • Proven focus on cost optimization skills and techniques
  • Strong stakeholder management & business partnering skills.
  • A natural bias for action, a sense of urgency, and a demonstrated ability to work independently in a flexible, fast-changing environment.
  • A passion for accelerating the energy transition and addressing the climate crisis.

Working Conditions:  

Up to 90% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Up to 10% of time is spent outside of the office visiting vendors’ and/or internal customers’ sites in addition to attending various conferences and meetings.
